Fahad Aziz Bayo’s first half goal handed Uganda Cranes a 1-0 win over Rwanda at Nyamirambo Regional Stadium on Thursday evening to hand Uganda their first win of their Qatar 2020 World Cup qualifying campaign.
Amavubi started a better side with the host threatening in the early minutes of the encounter.
Bayo put the visitors ahead just 4 minutes to the break after tapping home for a 1-0 lead in the first stanza.
After the break Uganda Cranes had a forceful change with Isaac Muleme limping out for Abdul Aziz Kayondo while Julius Poloto also replaced Bobosi Byaruhanga in 67 minutes.
Moments later another forced change saw Abang Cromwell replaced goal scorer Fahad Bayo who got injured in the 76 minutes.
Yunus Ssentamu and Martin Kizza also came in for Moses Waiswa and Steve Mukwala in the 85th and 88th minute respectively.
But Uganda Cranes defended well as they held on to hand Milutin Micho his first win since taking over as Uganda Cranes head coach.
Victory saw Uganda Cranes temporarily move to the top of the log in Group E with 5 points just one point above Mali who host Kenya tonight at Stade Adrar in Morocco.
Rwanda meanwhile are rooted at the bottom of the log with 1 point after 3 games.
Both teams are back in action on Sunday 10th October when Uganda hosts Rwanan at St Mary’s stadium.
