Vipers Sports Club claimed a come-from-behind 2-1 victory over UPL rookies Kitara Football Club in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League encounter on Wednesday evening at St Mary’s stadium.
Brain Mululi Mayanja opened the lead for the visitors in the 54th minute but substitute Paul Macureezi restored parity in the 81st minute and another substitute Daniel Sserunkuma scored a winning goal for the Venoms’ just six minutes to the stoppage time for Kajoba’s first league win.
Kitara claimed the lead in the 54th minute with Mululi combining with Peter Lomoro to slot home past Vipers’ custodian Fabien Mutombora.
The Venoms thought they had equalized in the 67th minute through Godfrey Wasswa’s free kick but Kitara’s goalkeeper Musoke fingertipped the ball for a corner kick.
Vipers continued to dominate throughout the second half but they had to wait until 81st minute to level matters. substitute Dennis Mwemezi found Paul Mucureezi who headed home past Hillington Musoke for a 1-1.
Moments later the Venoms doubled the lead in the 84th minute. Sserunkuma tapped home Muhammad Shaban’s cross to hand Fred Kajoba’s chargers a 2-1 win over Kitara Football Club.
The result sees Vipers jump to 7th place of the log with 4 points in 2 games and will travel to Jinja to face Busoga United on Sunday, while Kitara Football Club who sit 2nd from the bottom will host Onduparaka Football Club on Saturday.
