Vipers 0-1 Al Hilal: Bakhet’s Goal Stuns Venoms in CAF CL 1st Leg.

Coach Zoran Manojlovic’s side, Al Hilal Omdurman of Sudan, did just enough to register victory in Saturday’s preliminary first round game away, taking back home a 1-0 lead in the second round CAF Champions League at home fixtures with Vipers Sports Club of Uganda.

At the stoppage time, a 26th minute goal from Waleed Bakhet handed the Blue Waves an important away win to Vipers at St Mary’s stadium Kitende.

Both clubs have it all to do in the 6 December return leg in Sudan at Al Hilal stadium, with the aggregate winners securing a slot for the group stage where they will face the aggregate winners between Nouadhibou of Mauritania or Ghana’s Asante Kotoko.

The two teams struggled in the first stanza with the hosts only clear chance coming in the 41st minute through Watambala’s shot outside the box.

In the second stanza, Vipers dominated the possession but Al Hilal’s custodian Ali Ashrin stood tall to deny Bagoole David and Ibrahim Orit.

Vipers made their own penalty call when debutant Ceasor Manzoki was tipped in the area, but Somalian referee HAssan Muhammed Hagi had to ignore the challenge as the game continued.

Moments later the visitors almost scored the second goal but Vipers short stopper Mutombora had to deny Farouk for a corner kick.

The Venoms will be hoping to improve and secure a good result in the return leg in Sudan to realize their dreams of playing in the group stages for the first time in their history.
