10-man Uganda U-20 and South Sudan U-20 national team played to a goalless draw in their group B U-20 CECAFA Challenge Cup at Sheikh Amri Abeid Stadium, Arusha on Monday.
CECAFA U-20 RESULT: Uganda 0-0 South Sudan
Defender Musa Ramadan recieved his marching orders from Burundian Centre Referee Saddam Houssein Mansour for a dangerous tackle but the Hipos managed to hold on for a draw against South Sundan.
Uganda enjoyed majority of their possessions through the first half, but Sudan’s defense held them at arms length quite comfortably with the boys in red coming close to scoring in the 10th minute.
The Hipos were reduced to 10 men when Ramadan went for an off-the-ball altercation that left referee Mansour with little option but to send the defender to the stands in the 35th minute following a consultation from his official.
The seconda stanza saw South Sudan dominate the possession with Taban Malish and Essien testing Hipos’ goalkeeper Jack Komakech on several occasions.
Uganda’s best chance in the second half saw Bobosi Byaruhanga’s free kick kept out by goalkeeper Justin Simon Pita.
The Hipos will entertain Burundi on Wednesday in their second game of group B CECAFA U-20 Challenge cup.
