FC Bayern Munich beat Eintracht Frankfurt 5-2 on Saturday evening, consolidating their lead in the table and enjoying a successful dress rehearsal ahead of Tuesday’s top clash away to Borussia Dortmund
Two changes for Bayern saw Thiago Alcantara and Serge Gnabry drop to the bench for Kingsley Coman and on-loan winger Ivan Perisic respectively.
Frankfurt lived on the edge as early as the 11th minute as Kevin Trapp palmed Robert Lewandowski’s thumping drive onto the crossbar.
However, the deadlock was broken six minutes later when Leon Goretzka needed just one touch to slam home Thomas Muller’s delivery.
Bayern grabbed a second after Muller turned home Alphonso Davies’ cross four minutes later, with the Video Assistant Referee ruling out foul play after careful observation.
The Bavarians found a third goal right after halftime with a composed finish from Lewandowski, who steered home Coman’s delivery.
Eintracht got on the scoreboard with arguably their first attack on 52 minutes as Martin Hinteregger headed home from Jerome Boateng’s sloppy clearance off a corner. Hinteregger netted a second for his side four minutes thereafter after rising highest to nod in Sebastian Rode’s corner.
Bayern re-established their two-goal advantage 61 minutes gone when Davies picked up a loose ball near the area for a composed finish following a surging run.
A point-blank save from Manuel Neuer denied Mijat Gacinovic a chance to bring the visitors back in the contest, but fortune favoured the hosts as Hinteregger bundled the ball into his own net after Trapp deflected Gnabry’s effort into his path on 74 minutes.
The result takes Bayern onto 61 points from 27 matches, four clear of Tuesday’s opponents Dortmund.
